IMPEX RESIDENCY II
Dominik Lang (Prague, Czech Republic)
october - december 2007
Architecture is the point of departure in Dominik Lang's works. He employs it as a lexicon of various forms, materials, combinations, styles and working methods, always having in view its relationship with the recipient. Space plays an important role in his works. It may often just be the space of a given gallery to which he relates in the spirit of a game of Lego. He moves walls, modifying the original ground plan of the premises , or deconstructing it by various means. He questions the original function and purpose of objects with minor interventions or by relocating them into different environments. He does so in a way that these new spheres of use or carefully designed spatial installations remain almost unnoticeable or seem nonsensical. He thus questions or occasionally confirms our usual stereotypes of perception. Sometimes his works are based on an intended self-referentiality, having no other purpose than 'being about' the work itself, questioning the legitimacy of their own existence.
Dominik Lang, Czech artist, is working in Budapest in the framework of the Artist Residency Program supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
Programs:
THINGS FOR VIEWING AND WALKING AROUND - DOMINIK LANG, solo exhibition
24 november - 14 december 2007
Opening: 23th november 2007, 7 p.m.

The exhibition in IMPEX features, among others, a mobile spatial installation where we can move walls, redesigning the model space and its ground plan. In addition, we can take delight in watching through a hole in the wall the ongoing construction around IMPEX, which will soon reach and absorb the spaces presently accommodating IMPEX.
